…Life as Family: The first things of life start at home. My primary vocation is that of a husband and father. The evidence of a systematic campaign to destroy the family is too great to ignore. Research shows the long term devastating effects of divorce on children and statistics paint a dark picture of fatherlessness in America. My first charter of life is to the mission of family.
…Life as Worship: Every Christian should have a “life verse” or series of scriptures that they seek to work and live from. I have this sense that God as has called me to live out the narrative of Micah 6:6-8. In this famous passage the prophet describes worship as a world and life view that encompasses doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with God. Therefore anything and everything we do should be about worshiping God in every aspect of our life.
…Life as Ministry: Ministry, Diakonos, by definition means service. This means service to each individual because they are made in the image of God. Ministry is taking someone from where they are to where God wants them to be. I have a simple philosophy of ministry which centers on this notion of create and empower. Every Christian is created for mission, as a pastor my job is to help you fulfill that mission and empower you to go do it through out your life. Ministry is not a sprint, it is a marathon — it is a life long endurance race.
…Church as Community: In a world that is so fractured the church should be the haven for grace and mercy. I have a strong conviction that churches are the heart and soul our communities. Being in community means not only where I live and work but also where I worship. Churches are responsible for both the community that is in church building and outside the church building.
…Life of the Spirit: Acts 1:8 gives us an insight into a Spirit empowered life. It shows us that with humility we can accomplish enormous tasks at home, at work, and in life. It gives us hope that empowered by the Spirit we destined for great things!
…Life of the Mind: Ideas have consequences. I have been and always will be fascinated by the interplay of faith, work and economics. Faith & Work in the sense that it calibrates our behavior and creates the notion of right and wrong. Economics is the study of collective human behavior measured in goods and services. Both theology and economics have competing and yet similar values. It’s that intersection where I live and play and lead.
